Are you making conscious efforts towards the conservation of electrical energy? On the 24th of March MacLaren Electrical Services Ltd is joining millions around the world to support the Earth Hour movement.
Working in the electrical services industry we always advise clients about the environmental benefits of saving energy. In the past, we have placed great importance on swapping to LED lightbulbs! However, in a greater effort to bring attention the cause of energy wastage, we are taking part in Earth Hour!
What is Earth Hour?
Organised by WWF, Earth Hour is an annual event in which people around the world are encouraged to switch off their lights for an hour. After nearly 9 million people from the UK took part last year, this year Earth Hour is being held on Saturday the 24th of March at 8.30pm. The aim of the movement is to “shine a light” on the need for climate action and in past years, landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Edinburgh Castle and the Sydney Opera House have taken part! Why not join along this year?
Conservation of Electrical Energy Tips
Unplug and Turn Off Lights
Follow the example of those taking part in Earth Hour, and unplug or switch off lights! Why keep lights on if you aren’t using them? Make an effort towards the conservation of electrical energy and remember to turn off lights. Though it is a rather obvious way to save electricity, we know it can be hard to remember! Make it a part of your routine before you leave the house or a room, take time to make sure all unnecessary appliances are unplugged and turned off. Another way you can ensure your lighting is more energy efficient, is to consider swapping lighting to LED A change like this can be carried out by an electrician Glasgow based, and would improve the energy consumption in both a domestic and commercial environment.
Use the Dishwasher Sparingly
Another way to save electrical energy is to use your domestic appliances only when absolutely necessary! Limit yourself to how many times you use the dishwasher, washing dishes by hand takes no time at all and saves much more energy. Also, when washing dishes ensure water isn’t being wasted! There are so many changes that we can make in our daily lives that will positively impact the effort to conserve electrical energy. All it takes is a bit of thought! Energy saving is just as much a priority to the team at MES as electrical safety, look to our last post for more advice about electrical safety.
Take Shorter Showers!
Another simple tip that can be introduced in your day to day routine is to take shorter showers! The only thing affected by a shorter shower is time. You will be able to get on with your day more efficiently, knowing you have made a conscious effort to reduce energy wastage.
So, why not follow the example of millions of people around the world? Take part in Earth Hour this March and take some small steps to reduce your electrical energy usage!
